A made-for-television Christmas tale about a generous little girl and her struggle to discover whether there really is a Santa Claus, Yes, Virginia is a kind of modern-day Miracle on 34th Street, based on the famous 1897 New York Sun newspaper editorial regarding the existence of St. Nick. Eight-year-old Virginia believes wholeheartedly in Santa Claus, but when some fellow classmates tease her and say he's not for real, Virginia sets out to prove that he is. The good deeds of a scraggly street-corner Santa help reinforce Virginia's belief in the spirit of the season, but when her research in the library is inconclusive, Virginia turns to the New York Sun newspaper for a definitive answer, because, as everyone knows, "If you see it in the Sun, it's so." What the editor of the newspaper can't possibly know is that his response to the young girl's letter will have a far-reaching effect. The big-headed animated characters in Yes, Virginia are somewhat reminiscent of the look of Coraline, but here the sense of encroaching darkness is tempered by hope and the power of belief. The all-star voice cast includes Neil Patrick Harris, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Alfred Molina, and Beatrice Miller as Virginia, and bonus features include director's commentary, kid cast commentary, and a making-of featurette.
